Biography
Dr. Isied is an assistant professor in the Civil Engineering and Construction Management
department at the University of Texas at Tyler. He received his Ph.D. from North Carolina
State University, focusing on Pavement Engineering and Materials. Dr. Isied's research
goals are to promote the sustainability and resiliency of transportation infrastructures
and implement cost-effective solutions to the transportation industry in order to
improve pavement network condition and pavement performance, reduce the production
cost of asphalt, and protect the environment. Dr. Isied has participated in several
state and national projects during his previous employment at NCSU, such as "Modifying
Existing Asphalt Mix Design Procedures for RAP/RAS Surface Mixtures" and "Calibration
of Structural Layer Coefficients for North Carolina Asphalt Pavements" for NCDOT.
Dr. Isied has extensive experience with Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) for pavement
modeling, pavement structural evaluation, economical assessment for sustainable pavement
materials, pavement mix design, and advanced pavement materials testing and characterization.
His research holds a unique place in the field because he focuses on performance modeling
and structural evaluation of pavements that were built using recycled materials and
modified binders utilizing AI techniques like ANN. Also, He tops the performance modeling
with economical assessment of that modification. His prior work experience in the
industry for project controls, coupled with his statistical and coding skills and
the work he did in the lab running and understanding real material testing, give him
the credentials to conduct any type of research, from data harvesting to mechanical
material modeling.
