Degree Requirements
The Master of Arts in Political Science degree in Political Science at the University
of Texas at Tyler is designed for students and scholars who not only want to understand
the complexities of the modern world, but to act in it as well. The Master of Arts
in Political Science introduces the motivated student to the academic study of politics
and political processes through preparation in four areas: American politics; comparative
politics; international relations; and political theory.
A rigorous course of study prepares the student for a variety of career options including:
(1) matriculation into doctoral programs in political science; (2) taking on teaching
responsibilities at the junior college level; and/or (3) training in competencies
for private or public sector employment. Whether you are planning a career in teaching,
research, law, public service, or in the private sector, the master鈥檚 degree provides
much more than mere information about political interchange; it also develops the
critically important speaking, writing, and analytical skills so valued by professional
schools and employers.
