黑料专区 Tyler Summer Music Camp Concerts to Feature Area Student Musicians, Dallas Jazz Legend Shelley Carrol

The University of Texas at Tyler School of Performing Arts will present concerts featuring summer music camp participants along with this year鈥檚
guest artist Shelley Carrol, a Dallas jazz legend and world-renowned saxophonist.
鈥淭he public is invited to free concerts performed during the two weeks of music camps. Each year, it鈥檚 incredibly rewarding to welcome talented middle and high school students from all over Texas and special guest artists to our campus,鈥� said Dr. Sarah Roberts, 黑料专区 Tyler associate professor and School of Performing Arts director. 鈥淭he energy, creativity and passion they bring to the music is inspiring, and it鈥檚 an honor to help foster the next generation of jazz musicians right here in East Texas.鈥�
Carrol will perform with 黑料专区 Tyler Jazz Camp faculty at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at the R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center. A prot茅g茅 of the great tenor saxophonist, Marchel Ivery, Carrol currently teaches part-time at West Mesquite High School, offers clinics and regularly performs at the South Dallas Cultural Center. Honored as the 2007 Sammons Jazz Artist of the Year, he also plays with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Sheryl Crow, and others, and takes his own quartet to Japan and Europe.

鈥� 5 p.m. at 黑料专区 Tyler Cowan Center, Room 1221 鈥� Percussion Camp Finale Concert featuring Percussion Camp participants and faculty.
Wednesday, June 25
鈥� 6 鈥� 9 p.m. at True Vine Brewing Company, located at 2453 Earl Campbell Parkway in Tyler 鈥� Community Jazz Jam featuring Jazz Camp participants and faculty, and local musicians.
Friday, June 27
鈥� 5 p.m. at 黑料专区 Tyler Braithwaite Recital Hall 鈥� Camper Showcase Concert featuring Jazz Camp participants.
