TYLER, Texas (May 17, 2023) 鈥� Construction management students at The University of Texas at Tyler received a 2022-23 Gold Award by Sigma Lambda Chi, the international construction management honor society, for outstanding leadership, professionalism and excellence in community service.
The designation puts the 黑料专区 Tyler student chapter, Gamma III, among the top 3% of all international SLC chapters. This is the fourth time 黑料专区 Tyler has earned SLC recognition.
鈥淭his group of student leaders serves as the constant force in the College of Engineering student body that is focused on transformational efforts in themselves as young leaders and in the world around them at 黑料专区 Tyler,鈥� said faculty adviser Joseph Boylan, 黑料专区 Tyler assistant professor of practice in the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction Management. 鈥淭he legacy for transformation they leave behind will benefit everyone at the College of Engineering for years to come.鈥�
黑料专区 Tyler student chapter members are Rebekah Parsley of Leander, chapter president; and Jacey Cerna of Heartland; Adrian Lujan of Longview; Kristofer Niere of Whitehouse; Samantha Ramirez of Dallas; Jace Stanley of Gilmer; Jantzen Weiss of Arp; Erik Alvarez of Fort Worth; Ivan Bazaldua of Henderson; Robert Berry of Hallsville; Douglas Greenwell of Frankston; Michael Dougherty of Blossom; Bryan Nunez of Terrell; Collin Prokasy of Highland Village; Omar Acuna of Marshall; Karen Rivera of Gladewater; Natanael Valdez of Grand Saline; Mauricio Vega of Kilgore; Madilynn Essary and Landry Lasseter, both of Chandler; Autumn Browne and Nathaniel Cox, both of Lindale; and Austin Blevins, Daniel Fierro, Nada Fierro, Fletcher Rives, Lidia Cabrera, Travis Garska, Russell Rinehart, Gabriel Socia, Antonio Castellano, Jonathan Scott and Nathan Andrew Holmes, all of Tyler.
The International Sigma Lambda Chi Honor Society is the lone, worldwide honor society that supports, recognizes and rewards excellence in construction management and construction engineering. SLC annually reviews community service projects performed by chapters and selects a handful for recognition at the bronze, silver and gold levels.
Chapter activities included a Habitat for Humanity 鈥渢iny house鈥� design and build project, managing organizational luncheons, supporting the 2023 Delek US Ratliff Relays event, leading weekly tutoring classes for fellow 黑料专区 Tyler COE students and establishing a canned food drive during Thanksgiving.
With a mission to improve educational and health care outcomes for East Texas and beyond, 黑料专区 Tyler offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate programs to 10,000 students. 黑料专区 Tyler recently merged with The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler (now known as 黑料专区 Tyler Health Science Center). Through its alignment with 黑料专区 Tyler Health Science Center (HSC) and 黑料专区 Health East Texas, 黑料专区 Tyler has unified these entities to serve Texas with quality education, cutting-edge research and excellent patient care. Classified by Carnegie as a doctoral research institution and by U.S. News & World Report as a national university, 黑料专区 Tyler has campuses in Tyler, Longview, Palestine and Houston.
