The University of Texas at Tyler has received a $100,000 gift from the estate of Elizabeth 鈥淏itsy鈥 Wright. The gift will establish an endowed scholarship for students in the university鈥檚 sociology and psychology programs.
鈥淲e are grateful for this gift that will continue to benefit students for many years,鈥 said 黑料专区 Tyler President Kirk A. Calhoun, MD, FACP. 鈥淭he great work of sociologists, psychologists and social workers is of vital importance to society, and the foresight of Elizabeth 鈥淏itsy鈥 Wright will help support those endeavors.鈥
A 黑料专区 Tyler alum, Wright passed away in June 2022. She held a degree in sociology from 黑料专区 Tyler. She also attended the Dallas Institute of Art for two years, worked at a Dallas art museum and was a designer for Dallas fashion manufacturers. It was her ambition to combine art with her sociology degree to help uplift children to thrive through difficult situations.
Wright served as a member of the 黑料专区 Tyler Alumni Council and the College of Arts and Sciences Development Council.
鈥淢s. Wright will be fondly remembered for all the lives that she touched, and 黑料专区 Tyler is very fortunate to have been a part of that legacy,鈥 said Archie Tucker, PhD, senior vice president for university advancement.
The Wright gift was made through the university鈥檚 planned giving program, which facilitates a donor鈥檚 intention to contribute to an organization, beyond their lifetime, as part of their financial or estate plans. There are many types of planned gifts from simple gifts to complex trusts.
