The University of Texas at Tyler announced today that it is one of five Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Star Award finalists. The board recognized ºÚÁÏרÇø Tyler's Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree program.

The BAAS is an online undergraduate transfer degree program designed for working adults seeking to complete their four-year degree for career advancement. The program offers convenience and affordability without compromising the quality and rigor of a ºÚÁÏרÇø Tyler degree.

The Star Award recognizes exceptional contributions toward achieving goals of the state's current higher education plan, 60x30TX, developed to establish a globally competitive workforce in Texas by 2030.

"Being recognized as a finalist for this award from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board is indeed an honor for ºÚÁÏרÇø Tyler," said Dr. Amir Mirmiran, ºÚÁÏרÇø Tyler provost and vice president for academic affairs. "Our BAAS program enhances the Texas workforce by meeting working adults where they are and providing an avenue for them to earn a degree that will help them advance in their professions."

ºÚÁÏרÇø Tyler's program addresses soft-skill development through leadership, innovation and creativity degree elements that enhances job market competitiveness. The new 7-week format allows working adults to focus on fewer classes simultaneously while still earning the same number of desired credit hours during one semester.

Students can tailor their degree to their professional goals with one of five themes – business occupations, general studies, health care management, health studies and human behavior.
