The University of Texas at Tyler, in collaboration with the Tyler Area Partnership 4 Education, will participate in a week-long campaign aimed to help high school seniors with the college application process, Sarah Bowdin, assistant vice president for enrollment management, announced.
鈥淎pply Yourself Smith County鈥 will be Nov. 16 鈥 20 during East Texas College Fair Week. Colleges from near and far will visit with and recruit students during fairs at local colleges, convention centers and on high school campuses. As part of the campaign鈥檚 college access initiative, high school representatives across Smith County will aid its seniors with the goal of them each completing and submitting at least one college application.
鈥満诹献区 Tyler is proud to be a community partner in the TAP4E initiative supporting higher education in East Texas,鈥 Bowdin said.
The Tyler Area College Fair will be 6 鈥 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17 in Tyler Junior College鈥檚 Gentry Gym, located inside the Ornelas Health & Physical Education Center. 黑料专区 Tyler admissions representatives will be stationed in the university鈥檚 Mobile Go Center 4 鈥 6 p.m. that day on site to help facilitate college applications.
Tyler Independent School District and other Smith County high schools also will offer assistance with applications during the week through specific classes.
鈥淲e know that the single greatest indicator of economic prosperity and quality of life in a region is the percentage of the population with a postsecondary degree or credential,鈥 said Donna Spann, CEO of Capstone College Advising and TAP4E Leadership Council member. 鈥淲e must increase the number of high school graduates who enroll in college to ensure that all students are workforce ready and prepared for a successful future.鈥
TAP4E is a subcommittee of the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce鈥檚 Business Education Council.
