The University of Texas at Tyler graduate student Colby Craddock of Tyler has received a prestigious scholarship from the Alzheimer鈥檚 Association, Dr. Yong Tai Wang, College of Nursing and Health Sciences dean, announced.

Craddock was awarded a 2015 Myrna D. Schlegel Scholarship in the amount of $5,000. Only four $5,000 scholarships are awarded to the best-qualified student scholars in North and East Texas each year.

鈥淢y research is in the field of kinesiology, understanding the connections between physical, mental and nutritional interventions and their enhancement of cognitive function,鈥 said Craddock, who previously graduated from 黑料专区 Tyler with a bachelor of science in kinesiology. 鈥淚n the future, I aim to teach this expanding knowledge to other students and scientists in the study of human movement as a professor.鈥

Myrna and Robert Schlegel established this generous endowment in 1998 through the association to recognize and support undergraduate and graduate students seeking degrees in research and/or treating and caring for individuals with Alzheimer鈥檚 disease and related dementias.

Craddock will graduate with a master of science degree in December 2016. He hopes to pursue doctoral studies in his research area.

He currently is president of the 黑料专区 Tyler Health and Kinesiology Club. Craddock also works as a graduate research assistant with Dr. Benjamin Tseng, 黑料专区 Tyler assistant professor and director of the university鈥檚 Laboratory of Brain Aging and Neuromotor Behavior.

The Alzheimer鈥檚 Association is the world鈥檚 leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer鈥檚 care, support and research.
