The University of Texas at Tyler Music Department will hold its first concert featuring work from 黑料专区 Tyler and high school students in the composition and composer mentor programs, Dr. Michael Thrasher, 黑料专区 Tyler School of Performing Arts director, announced.

The public, double-bill 鈥満诹献区 Tyler Composer Mentor and Composition Readings Concert鈥 will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13 in the 黑料专区 Tyler Braithwaite Recital Hall.

鈥淣ew music is created every day in your town 鈥 come see and hear the result of months of hard work on the parts of our local high school participants in the 黑料专区 Tyler Piney Woods Young Musician Collaborative Program, mentor students from 黑料专区 Tyler鈥檚 composition program and performers from the 黑料专区 Tyler music student body,鈥 said Dr. Kyle Gullings, 黑料专区 Tyler assistant professor of music theory and composition, who serves as the program coordinator.

The first half will feature works composed by program participants attending Grace Christian and Robert E. Lee high schools. The latter half will feature original compositions by 黑料专区 Tyler composition students, who serve as the mentors.

Volunteer 黑料专区 Tyler music students will perform the high school composers鈥 works. The mentors鈥 works will be performed by a woodwind quintet consisting of regional professional musicians, including Thrasher on clarinet and 黑料专区 Tyler instructor Sue Bugg on flute, Gullings added.

A question and answer session will follow.

A Community Engagement Seed Grant through the College Music Society鈥檚 CMS Fund sponsors the 黑料专区 Tyler Piney Woods Young Musician Collaborative. The membership and leadership of the College Music Society, as well as the CMS Fund, are dedicated to advancing the ideals of education in music through meaningful community engagement projects.
