Students from The University of Texas at Tyler and Tyler Junior College participated in the 2014 黑料专区 System Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Undergraduate Research Conference held at 黑料专区 El Paso.
The students presented posters of their undergraduate research projects conducted under the supervision of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics faculty mentors during the LSAMP Summer Research Academy held at 黑料专区 Tyler.
Now in its 22nd year, the 黑料专区 LSAMP program is supported by funding from the National Science Foundation and provides undergraduate research experiences to encourage students from underrepresented populations to pursue graduate-level studies in STEM. TJC is 黑料专区 Tyler鈥檚 community college partner in the 黑料专区 LSAMP program.

WINONA 鈥� Adam Huffman, electrical engineering, Dr. Hector Ochoa, 黑料专区 Tyler assistant professor, 鈥淚mplementation of OMP Algorithm on an ARM Processor.鈥�
CALIFORNIA 鈥� Jamie Williams, biology, Dr. John Placyk, 黑料专区 Tyler associate professor and Dr. Joshua Banta, 黑料专区 Tyler assistant professor, 鈥淒eveloping Genetic Protocols for the Endangered Texas Wildflower, Leavenworthia texana.鈥�
In addition, 黑料专区 Tyler chemistry major Randy Sronce of Belton gave an oral presentation titled, 鈥淒eposition of Gold Nanoparticles on Silicon via a Galvanic Displacement Using a Block Copolymer.鈥� Sronce conducted research at ETH 鈥� Zurich, Switzerland as a participant in the 黑料专区 LSAMP Summer Research Academy Abroad Program. 黑料专区 Tyler civil engineering major Isaac Aguilar of Tyler also presented a research poster titled, 鈥淎ssessing Performance of Pavement by Investigating Hot Mix Asphalt Layer.鈥� Aguilar conducted his summer research at 黑料专区 El Paso.
TJC participants listed with their 黑料专区 Tyler faculty mentors and research poster titles are: David DeClerck of Tyler in chemistry with Dr. Neil Gray, 黑料专区 Tyler chair and professor of chemistry and biochemistry, 鈥淥rganic Reactions at Polymer-Coating Interfaces: Decontaminating Coatings for Chemical Warfare Agents鈥� and David Morman of Van in computer science with Dr. Nary Subramanian, 黑料专区 Tyler associate professor, 鈥淪imulations for Computer Security Education.鈥�
Gray accompanied the student delegation. Dr. Stephen Rainwater, 黑料专区 Tyler Lecil and Barbara Chandler Professor of Computer Science, participated in his role as 黑料专区 Tyler LSAMP program campus director.
