Mack Stewart of Bullard, a sophomore mechanical engineering major at The University of Texas at Tyler, has been named a Texas Space Grant Scholar, Dr. James Nelson, College of Engineering and Computer Science dean, announced.
The lone 黑料专区 Tyler representative, Stewart was one out of 26 students selected statewide to receive the 2014-15 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Columbia Crew Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,500.
鈥淚t is so wonderful that one of our students won this very competitive scholarship competing with many schools in the region. Our very best wishes to Mack in pursuing his degree in mechanical engineering,鈥 said Dr. Muthukrishnan Sathyamoorthy, 黑料专区 Tyler Department of Mechanical Engineering chair and college associate dean.
Stewart will graduate from 黑料专区 Tyler in 2016.
These scholarships are intended to recognize high-quality students and encourage their consideration of graduate studies in STEM fields which will ultimately lead to careers in space related fields. The scholarships stress excellence in academics, participation in STEM education projects, participation in research projects and exhibited leadership qualities.
The Texas Space Grant Consortium and the Aviation and Space Foundation of Texas 鈥 in partnership with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration 鈥 have established this scholarship program in memory of the Space Shuttle Columbia astronauts.
Over the last eight years, Texas Space Grant Consortium has awarded more than $1.25 million in fellowships and scholarships.
The Texas Space Grant Consortium is a group of 53 institutions which include universities, industrial organizations, non-profit organizations and government agencies within Texas that are joined to ensure that the benefits of space research and technology are available to all Texans.
