The University of Texas at Tyler Department of Music will present 鈥淢ount Vernon Music鈥 in concert on Saturday, Feb. 1, Dr. Michael Thrasher, School of Performing Arts director, announced.

The public concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the 黑料专区 Tyler Braithwaite Hall and features Joel Schoenhals on piano and the Orchard Ensemble: Ute Miller on viola; Jeffrey Hood on cello; Elizabeth Elsner on violin; and Mark Miller on violin.

Schoenhals is professor of piano at Eastern Michigan University and guest professor of piano at Nanchang University in Nanchang, Jiangxi, People鈥檚 Republic of China. An active performer and recording artist, Schoenhals has received praise for his recordings 鈥淏art贸k鈥檚 for Children,鈥 鈥淟ieder of Schubert Transcribed for Piano by Franz Liszt鈥 and 鈥淢usical Moments of Schubert and Rachmaninoff on Fleur de Son Classics.鈥 He has most recently recorded 鈥淪chubert and Schumann Fantasies鈥 and a CD of Chinese piano.

Schoenhals holds a master of music, doctoral of musical arts and performer鈥檚 certificate from the Eastman School of Music.

Ute Miller is principal violist of the East Texas Symphony, performs with the Dallas Symphony and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestras and has appeared as a soloist with the East Texas Symphony Orchestra. A founder and treasurer of Mount Vernon Music Association, Ute performs with her husband Mark, Mount Vernon Music president, in the violin-viola ensemble Duo Renard, which was brought to Texas with a National Endowment for the Arts Rural Residencies chamber music grant.

Co-owner and president of Mount Vernon Music, Mark Miller was a 1995 recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Rural Residencies grant and has been performing and organizing musical events in Mount Vernon and the northeast Texas region for the past 10 years. He is concertmaster of the East Texas Symphony Orchestra and performs with the Fort Worth Symphony.

Since 1997, he has produced The Color of Sound, a series of chamber music concerts underwritten by the Music Department of Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Hood graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan and holds a bachelor of music and performer鈥檚 certificate from the Eastman School of Music as well as a master鈥檚 degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Elsner is currently concertmaster of the Abilene Philharmonic. She holds bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 of music degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music.
