The University of Texas at Tyler has opened a center dedicated to provide students with an on-campus recovery community, Ona Tolliver, assistant vice president for student affairs and dean of students, announced.
Located in the University Center Annex, room 381, the 黑料专区 Tyler Center for Students in Recovery gives students in recovery and in hope of recovery the opportunity to achieve academic, professional and personal success 鈥 while enjoying a genuine college experience at 黑料专区 Tyler. The program is made possible through a three-year 黑料专区 System grant, meant to expand collegiate recovery programming throughout the 黑料专区 System.
This is the first and only university system-wide expansion in the nation.
鈥淲e are proud to be one of the first 黑料专区 System schools receiving this grant to open our Center for Students in Recovery this fall,鈥 said Kim Harvey-Livingston, 黑料专区 Tyler director of student services. 鈥淭he lessons learned through this program make the choice to attend 黑料专区 Tyler a life-long benefit to both the individual and the community.鈥
Center hours are 8 a.m. 鈥 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by special appointment. All addictions 12-step meetings are 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. Al-Anon meetings are 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays.
Staff can also provide students with resources, referrals and service opportunities.
鈥淭he center is not only for anyone in recovery but also for those students interested in learning more about recovery or supporting their peers or loved ones in recovery from addictive behaviors. 黑料专区 Tyler鈥檚 support services encourage personal responsibility and healthy decision-making that contribute to lifelong learning,鈥 Harvey-Livingston added.
The 黑料专区 Tyler Department of Student Services provides support and opportunities that maximize a student鈥檚 ability to benefit from the academic environment through accessibility, professional counseling, recovery, wellness and testing services.
