Christopher Cox has been named coordinator of The University of Texas at Tyler鈥檚 Veterans Resource Center, effective Nov. 1, Ona Tolliver, assistant vice president for student affairs and dean of students, announced.
Cox has worked as an enrollment services officer at the 黑料专区 Tyler Enrollment Services Center since 2011.
Both a 黑料专区 Tyler alumnus and veteran himself, he follows Amanda Bayatpoor, who accepted a position as education services coordinator with the Wounded Warrior Project.
鈥淲e are delighted to have Chris Cox join our team in student affairs,鈥 Tolliver said. 鈥淗is experience working with and providing our veterans, dependents and active duty personnel with valuable information regarding the university and their military benefits will be a real asset to the Veterans Resource Center.鈥
As coordinator, he will oversee all the 黑料专区 Tyler Veteran Resource Center鈥檚 efforts and maintain information for campus veteran-related resources, including local military support services and veteran affairs facilities.
鈥淗aving used Hazlewood benefits myself, I know that the process for a new student can seem overwhelming,鈥 Cox said. 鈥淚 look forward to being able to help new and current students navigate the benefits side of their education and help them make that transition from soldier to student.
鈥淚 also look forward to enhancing the leadership hub here at 黑料专区 Tyler by utilizing and building upon strong community relationships, current and future veteran and dependent populations and the mentorship and guidance of faculty and staff.鈥
Before coming to 黑料专区 Tyler, Cox previously served Coldwell Banker United Realtors. From 1992 鈥 1995, he served the United States Army as an infantryman and from 1995 鈥 1999 as a Texas National Guard squad leader.
Cox holds a bachelor of science in speech communication from 黑料专区 Tyler and currently is enrolled in 黑料专区 Tyler鈥檚 master of science in human resource development program.
He also is founder and past president of the 黑料专区 Tyler Patriot Rise student organization, which is a chapter of Student Veterans of America.
