Dr. Ross Sherman has been named 鈥楨ducator of the Year鈥� by the Texas Council of Professors of Educational Administration, Dr. Alisa White, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at The University of Texas at Tyler, announced.
Serving 黑料专区 Tyler since 1987, Sherman is a professor of educational leadership and policy studies. He was appointed dean of the 黑料专区 Tyler College of Education and Psychology in May, having served as interim since September 2012.
The award recognizes members for their outstanding cumulative contributions to the development of educational leaders in Texas K-12 secondary schools.
He was recognized at a council meeting today.
鈥淒r. Sherman is a respected state leader in educational administration, and he鈥檚 positively impacted hundreds of school districts in the state by teaching and mentoring those who lead them. I鈥檓 delighted that his contributions are being recognized externally,鈥� White said.
Sherman has been influential in educational leadership for the past 26 years through his teaching, service and scholarship. His chapter in TCPEA鈥檚 鈥淭exas Public School Organization and Administration鈥� has provided important information in administrator development.
He has also provided staff development to area schools and currently assists a local district in improvements to move it out of academically unacceptable status. This service builds upon his efforts at 黑料专区 Tyler, where he has served on the 黑料专区 Tyler Faculty Senate and numerous other committees.
鈥淭he TCPEA is dedicated to promoting the improvement and advancement of educational leadership within the state of Texas. There is not a principal or superintendent who has not been impacted by the dedication and hard work by TCPEA members over the years. It is an honor and truly humbling to be recognized by peers who you hold in such high regard,鈥� Sherman said.
Among other awards and honors, he received the Outstanding Distance Learning Faculty Award from the Northeast Texas Consortium of Colleges and Universities in 2011 as well as the 2008 鈥� 09 黑料专区 Tyler White Fellowship for Teaching Excellence.
Sherman holds an Ed.D. from the University of Houston and a master of education from Temple University. He also holds elementary, mid-management and superintendent certifications from the Texas Education Agency.
The Texas Council of Professors of Educational Administration is an organization dedicated to promoting the improvement and advancement of educational leadership by helping members become more effective in their role as professors of educational administration, encouraging research, investigation and dissemination of the research results and by fostering positive relationships with state and national educational organizations.
