The University of Texas at Tyler is currently accepting students for a program developed to meet the growing demand for more engineers in Texas, Dr. Alisa White, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, announced.

黑料专区 Tyler, in partnership with Houston Community College, has established the 黑料专区 Tyler Houston Center for Engineering to help engineering students earn a four-year degree.

Beginning this fall, Houston area students will have the convenience of taking HCC and 黑料专区 Tyler courses at the 黑料专区 Tyler Houston Engineering Center, located on the HCC Alief-Hayes Campus.

Through course offerings at the Houston Engineering Center, students may obtain both an HCC associate鈥檚 degree and 黑料专区 Tyler bachelor鈥檚 degree in either electrical or mechanical engineering for about $20,000, making it one of the most affordable baccalaureate engineering degrees in the state.

鈥淭his is a phenomenal opportunity for students who want to earn an engineering degree and begin their studies at one of the excellent community colleges in the region,鈥 said Dr. James Nelson, 黑料专区 Tyler College of Engineering and Computer Science dean. 鈥淲e in the college are excited to be able to work with the many exceptional students in Houston and provide them with this opportunity, with the same education as students receive in Tyler. By pursuing this option students will be able to live at home, which reduces the total cost of education even further.鈥

The program will offer civil engineering beginning fall 2014.

This is the first time in Texas that a highly coordinated associate鈥檚 degree program and baccalaureate engineering program has been available to students. Because of the coordination, transfer students will be able to complete a bachelor鈥檚 engineering degree in a very timely matter, he added.

The program is also aimed to support the engineering field and the businesses that offer highly skilled job opportunities.

Composed of six colleges serving the Greater Houston area, HCC offers associate degrees, certificates, workforce training and lifelong learning opportunities for 75,000 students each semester.

黑料专区 Tyler has an enrollment of almost 7,000 students and offers bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degrees as well as two doctoral programs.
