The University of Texas at Tyler Model United Nations Program was honored during the 2012 National Model UN 鈥 New York Conference, Dr. Marcus Stadelmann, Department of Political Science and History chair, announced.
In recognition of their excellence in committee, the 黑料专区 Tyler delegation representing Sri Lanka received the Honorable Mention Award. The award is presented to the top delegations and based on teamwork, leadership, speaking and negotiating abilities, knowledge of the issues and proper procedure rules usage.
Each year, more than 5,000 students from five continents convene in New York to participate, making this conference the largest and one of the most prestigious collegiate Model United Nations simulations worldwide.
Ryne Harrel of Pittsburg, Darby Capps of Kilgore and Cammie Wymore of New York also won the 鈥淥utstanding Position Papers鈥 award for their exemplary work during conference preparations. Harrel was recognized for his work on the General Assembly Second Committee, which focuses on financial and economic issues. Capps and Wymore also were recognized for the paper they wrote for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. This award is presented to the delegates that submit the best papers in committee based on professional writing style, ability to clearly articulate the positions of their assigned country and thoroughness of research over assigned topics.
Other participants were Brandon Sheets of Lindale, Jacob Parker of Whitehouse, Jeremy Key of Longview, Kimberly Nhim of Palestine, Nakia Dupree of Longview, Patricia Peralta of Tyler, Pierre Nouma of Tyler, Samantha Winn of Tyler and Joanie Brown of Montana.
鈥淚鈥檓 very proud of our delegation. Dr. Rachel Bzostek and Ms. Maggie Haas (program director and assistant director) did a great job preparing our students for their successes,鈥 Stadelmann said.
The continued success of the 黑料专区 Tyler delegation to NMUN-NY comes on the heels of the program鈥檚 outstanding performance at the NMUN-Europe conference held in Lille, France earlier this year.
