The University of Texas at Tyler Holds Graduation Ceremony for 14 Residencies and Fellowships

The University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine held a graduation ceremony for 66 residents and fellows. The event was the first combined graduation ceremony for residencies and fellowships and featured the first general surgery and rural psychiatry residency graduates.
鈥淭o become a licensed physician, medical school graduates are required to complete a residency鈥攁nywhere from three to eight years,鈥� said Dr. Sue Cox, 黑料专区 Tyler School of Medicine dean. 鈥淩esidency graduates then have the option of gaining advanced training in a subspecialty through a one-to-three-year fellowship. We are immensely proud of each and every one of our graduates and the time and effort they鈥檝e put into serving their communities鈥攆rom their undergraduate medical education to now.鈥�
According to the Texas Physician Pipeline Mode, 58.9% of physicians who completed their graduate medical education in Texas stayed in the state to practice. The goal of graduate medical education at 黑料专区 Tyler is to recruit and retain quality providers in the East Texas region.
